Generic Conventions

Similarities Between Front covers...

  • In most of the magazines i have analysed they have used only one artist for the main background image on the front cover.
  • The name of the artist is also a focus feature on the front cover as it is made large in a eye catching font, this is mainly put at the bottom of the photo of the artist.
  • The main focus at the top of the front cover is usually the name of the magazine which is made clear and bold at the top of the magazine which catches the readers eye.
  • The article which will be included are then usually put on the left hand side of the front cover, this makes the layout simple, the name of the articles is used and a slight description so that the reader is aware of what that article includes.
Similarities Between Content Pages...

  • The contents page usually contains more that one image, the images normally link to the articles themselves or the artist which are being interviewed.
  • A numbering system is also used on all of the magazines contents pages, this allows the readers to go straight to the article which they are most interested in and give the layout an ordered and professional feel.
  • The content shows the article which are included on each page, they do this by doing the titles of the articles in bold and then doing a brief description of what is going to be included in the article underneath.
  • The contents page also may highlight the extras which the magazine is going to include, for example in Q magazine they have an oasis special.
Similarities Between Double Page Spreads...

  • On the double page spread, one whole page is use for one photo and the other page is used for the article.
  • The article always starts with the first letter enlarged.
